Masala Chai

Masala chai is a perfect cold weather drink! Cinnamon, cloves, and cardamom add subtle sweetness while black peppercorns and fresh ginger contribute a kick of spice that will warm you right up on a chilly autumn day. Grinding your own spices makes all the difference when it comes to freshness and flavor. For this recipe, all you have to do is crush the spices into a coarse mixture so that they can infuse their flavors into the water and milk.
Ingredients:
1 2-inch cinnamon stick
4 whole cloves
1 tsp black peppercorns
6 green cardamom pods
3 slices of fresh ginger
1 cup water
1-2 black tea bags
¾ cup milk of choice
Sweetener of choice (optional)
Directions
- Set up your Vidiem Mixer-Grinder by placing the spice grinder jar onto the motor base.
- Lightly toast all spices over medium-low heat until fragrant, about 2 minutes.
- Place spices in the grinder, secure the lid, and pulse a few times, just to slightly crush them.
- Transfer to a small saucepan, add the ginger and water, and bring to a boil.
- Boil for 10 minutes, then add tea bags, milk, and sweetener (if using).
- Simmer for another 5 minutes.
- Strain the chai into a mug and enjoy while hot.
- Refrigerate any leftovers and reheat before serving.
